Congratulations Micka!

Congratulations Micka

Every year, FFC awards an older foster youth with the Blue Ribbon Award.  This Award recognizes courageous individuals who are on a path to success despite the obstacles they have faced.

This year, the Blue Ribbon Award was renamed the Covelli Award of Courage in honor of Gavin and Annette Ford and in memory of Mr. Albert Covelli, Annette’s father. Last month, we presented the newly renamed award to Micka, a doctoral candidate in her 3rd year of pharmacy school.

mickaMicka decided in high school that she did not want to become another foster care statistic. She worked diligently to enroll in honors classes to prepare herself to become the first in her family to enroll in college.

FFC first met Micka when she was in high school and we provided funding for prom, senior pictures, her graduation package.  We also financed her trip to the Capitol for school through our Fostering Success program. In college, FFC provided funding for textbooks to lessen Micka’s financial stress through our Transition to Adulthood program.

We received many entries and it was difficult to select a winner. We know Micka will benefit from the $2,500 award as she completes her Doctorate degree in Pharmacy at Florida A&M University. Micka has a bright future ahead of her and we are so proud of all that she has accomplished. Congratulations, Micka!
