Eligibility Criteria:
• Must be between the ages of 18-24
• Must have current or former experience in foster care
• Must understand that this is a consultation-based process focused on identifying needs and exploring available support options
Essentials to Independence: A resource-based support initiative designed to help young adults take immediate steps toward self-sufficiency. Through a consultation process, we assist with:
• Transportation Support – Includes bus passes or Uber/Lyft rides for job interviews and essential appointments. Proof of appointment/interview is required, along with the completion of a related life skills unit. Emergency transportation is not provided.
• Housing Support – Guidance on housing resources and referrals. We do not provide emergency housing or direct placements. Rental assistance – May be available up to two times per year and requires completion of a life skills unit related to housing stability.
• Career Development– Resume building, job search assistance, and professional skill development.
• Parenting Resources– Access to programs and tools for young parents.
• Life Skills & Budget Planning – Support in essential skills for independence.
• Funding Requests (As Funding Allows) – May be available for specific needs but may include eligibility criteria to ensure responsible use of funds.
Essentials for Independence is NOT a replacement for:
• Advocacy or case management
• Legal services
• Housing placement
• Emergency assistance (housing, transportation, or funding)
• Assistance with traffic infractions
