Maria Petrakos, MNM — Program Operations Administrator
Maria has been with the Foundation for Foster Children since 2011. She was brought on as an AmeriCorps Public Ally providing oversight to the pilot tutoring program, BEST (Building Educational Success Together), then hired as the full-time Program & Volunteer Manager at the end of her service term. In 2013, she received the Child Welfare Spirit Award presented by DCF and CBCCFL. In 2016, Maria was promoted to serve as the Program Operations Manager.
Prior to her work at the Foundation, Maria interned and volunteered with the Art & History Museums – Maitland, the Cornell Fine Arts Museum and the Orlando Museum of Art, focusing on arts education for children. She previously worked as a visual merchandiser and sales manager in fashion retail and was the Station Manager for WPRK, the Rollins College radio station, while working on her undergraduate degree. Maria currently serves on the Community Advisory Council for WPRK, a group she created with fellow community supporters, Rollins faculty and staff.
Maria has her Master’s of Nonprofit Management from the University of Central Florida and received her Bachelor’s in Studio Art from Rollins College. She was awarded the Young Alumni Achievement Award from Rollins College in 2017, the Child Welfare Spirit Award from DCF & CBC in 2013 and the Providing the Light Award from the COMPACT Mentoring Program in partnership with OCPS in 2012.
