Alana Brenner, vice president-community outreach

Alana Brenner was appointed Orlando City Clerk by Mayor Buddy Dyer on June 1, 2004.  In that capacity, she serves as the corporate secretary for the City and is responsible for Agenda Development, Records and Archives Management, City Elections, Citizen Board appointments and Greenwood Cemetery.

Ms. Brenner also serves as the Mayor’s point person on policy concerning issues of homelessness.  She is currently serving as staff liaison for the City with the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness and was the Co-chair of the Inaugural Project Homeless Connect Central Florida which took place in December of 2006 and which has now become an annual event in Orlando.

Prior to her appointment, Alana was a practicing attorney for 19 years.  She is a 1982 graduate of the University of Maryland and a 1985 graduate of the Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in Virginia.

Alana began her career as a law clerk to the Honorable Marvin H. Smith, Court of Appeals of Maryland, in Annapolis.   She then served as Assistant City Attorney and City Prosecutor for the City of Orlando from 1986-88, Assistant Staff Counsel for the Florida Bar from 1988-1990, and  as Staff Attorney with the Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association from 1990-1998.  In 1998, Alana opened her own private practice specializing in consumer protection law and maintained the practice until her appointment as Orlando City Clerk.

Alana currently serves as a board member of IDignity, Inc. and of the Foundation for Foster Children.  She has previously served as Chair of the Community Leadership Council of the Howard Phillips Center for Children and Families, the  Family Selection Committee for Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando, the Consumer Protection Law Committee of the Florida Bar and the Edgewater High School Foundation, as President of the College Park Neighborhood Association and as a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Ninth Judicial Circuit, the Executive Council of the Orange County Bar Association, and the Board of Trustees for the Legal Aid Society.
